Highlight of the story: One of the most interesting bird species in the world is a parrot. Their colorful feathers and their beautiful characters, as well as the fact that they can imitate sounds, do not make it hard to guess why a lot of people want to keep one as a pet. Not all parrots are able to live in a cage or in a home environment, however. There are too wild, too rare or too demanding species to make pets. Indeed, some species of parrots can only be appreciated in their natural environment where they can live with their flock and ecosystems. Keeping these birds as pets is not only challenging, but in most instances unhealthy to their lives and survival. These are five beautiful parrots which cannot and should not be pets.

Hyacinth Macaw

The Hyacinth Macaw is a largest globe parrot and one of the most attractive with cobalt blue colour feathers and yellow face markings. The Hyacinth Macaw is not a perfect pet in spite of its beauty. These birds are amazingly powerful, and have strong bills that can split coconuts. They need big areas to fly and special diets which can hardly be made at home.
Loss of habitat and illegal trade are also other factors that endanger hyacinth Macaws. The possession of one as a pet adds to these problems. They are meant to be in the wild, flying across South America where they get to live freely and get to associate with their flocks naturally.

Kakapo

The owl parrot or Kakapo is an endangered nighttime flightless parrot that is found in New Zealand. The moss-green parrot known as the kakapo is one of the rarest and most one of a kind parrots in the globe that looks like an owl. Regrettably, it is also on a list of the critically endangered species, with a few hundred remaining under the supervision of conservation management.
Kakapos are species that can only survive under close TLC such as predator-free parks and under 24-hour human watch. The reason why they are not kept as pets is because they are delicate in their needs and in their rarity. Rather, the conservationists are trying hard and doing the best to make sure that their numbers grow back and they are not part of the natural world.

Pesquet’s Parrot

The Pesquet Parrot also known as the Dracula Parrot due to the pronounced black and red feathers and hooked beak, is one of the most dramatic looking parrots in the world. This species is found in the rainforests of New Guinea and hence almost all it feeds on are figs thus its diet can hardly be sustained in captivity.
In addition to dietary requirements, the Parrots at Pesquet are on the verge of extinction, as hunting can kill them, and their habitat can be destroyed. Their wildness is where that belongs to them in their natural rainforest home and not in the cage. There is a threat of extinction of the already weak population due to them being kept as pets.

Palm Cockatoo

The Palm Cockatoo with its smoky black feathers and impressive red patches at the side of the cheek catches the eye of such a bird. Intelligent and fascinating, this bird is known, because of its special pattern of drumming, by which it plays on trees using sticks to hit it. One should not keep Palm Cockatoos though, as pets.
They are huge, very powerful and very smart and thus they get hard to handle at home. These people have to be mentally engaged and they have to be free to move around. They are also not the best pets because of their rarity and sensitivity to imprisonment. They should be seen in the wild so that one may best enjoy the beauty to be found in them.

Scarlet Macaw (Wild Populations)

Scarlet Macaw is among the most well known global parrots that are colored using red, yellow and blue respectively. Although certain Scarlet Macaws are farmed and sold to the pet market, the wild ones should never get captured and kept in any form of rearing. These birds are highly social and require huge flocks and large rainforests in order to flourish.Taking wild Scarlet Macaws does not only ruin lives of birds, but also causes destruction to ecosystems and genetic diversity. Knowledgeable bird lovers like Scarlet Macaws are out to view them in the natural environment or just love conservation programs which preserve them as opposed to keeping them in cages.

The Reasons These Parrots Should Remain in the Wild

Parrots are social, sensitive and intelligent animals. A significant number of the animals at this list are threatened by the destruction of habitats, poaching, and even exotic commercial business. Holding them as pets will damage the birds and the wild birds. Although the parrots are raised in captivity, they still have complicated needs which need room, stimulation and special diets at homes which can hardly be offered by few homes.
We can also help to protect biodiversity by helping to conserve the natural life of these parrots and the way of doing this is to provide them an opportunity to present to the future generation these great birds that they can come to view these great birds in their purest and natural environment.

Falling in love with the parrots is not hard because of the extraordinary colors and personality.A pet parrot is not always supposed to be a pet. Some examples of birds that should also remain in nature habitat include the Hyacinth Macaw, Kakapo, Pesquet parrot, palm cockatoo and wild scarlet Macaw.
Rather than attempting to place these parrots in our homes, we can help preserve them in the wild, enjoy them in the wild and know how to co-exist with them without causing harm to them. And of course, they are much prettier when they are not enslaved.
